For those in the greater Seattle area, please join me in making a difference in our community and environment.
Friends of Des Moines Creek
Since 1999, Laura has led Friends of Des Moines Creek and partnered with community volunteers to restore fish and wildlife habitat and maintain and protect miles of Des Moines Creek that flows into Puget Sound.
Past projects along Des Moines Creek include:
Removing invasive English ivy, Himalayan blackberries and other non-native vegetation
Planting native plants
Mulching around installed plants
Installing fences to protect the creek buffer
Legacy Award
Great news! I’m proud to announce I received the inaugural “Legacy Award” for being a “positive force” in my community to improve parks and recreation and for my leadership of Friends of Des Moines Creek and other volunteers for nearly two decades.
As I walk or jog along Des Moines Creek each week, I am truly thankful for all the volunteers who have given their time to help improve our natural areas. I couldn’t do it alone. Though the award was presented to me, it was earned by all of us.
